THIS STRIP TAKES THE BISCUIT

ONE of most iconic strips from the lower leagues of Scottish football, Albion Rovers’ Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer jersey, is set to make a comeback.

The Coatbridge side were sponsored by Tunnock’s in 1983, and they wore a yellow strip with red diagonal stripes that matched the wrapper of the baker’s famous biscuit.

Plans are now afoot to launch a retro version of the top.

A club spokesperson said: “We had the distinction of having worn a kit inspired by a sweetie wrapper, and now our kit suppliers are looking into a retro top with the Tunnock’s logo on it.

“We are trying to trace a jersey from the time but without success, so it may have to be replicated from pictures.”

RE-MARRIAGE AT GRETNA

THE man who scored Gretna’s first-ever senior goal, Matt Henney, has been appointed as the manager of Lowland League side Gretna 2008.

They rose from the ashes of the Raydale Park club that went under in 2008.

Henney (above), who has managed Windscale, Cleator Moor and Penrith, netted after just six minutes in a Division Three game against Morton in August, 2002 that ended in a 1-1 draw.

LICHTIES STRIKER’S ON FIRE

He missed the 2-0 win over Forfar so he could prepare for his final exams.
