THE Brexit vote underlined soaring levels of concern about immigration and living standards But, with Westminster minds unflinchingly focused on who is getting in to the country, it seems no thought has been given to those who might want to get out.

Research by The Sunday Post has revealed thousands of Scots have been scouring their family history in search of links that might see them qualify for dual British/EU citizenship. Nearly every European embassy has seen a surge in calls since June 23.

These figures show just how anxious people in Scotland – 62% of whom voted to remain – have become as the UK gears up to sever ties with the EU.

Theresa May has been warned not to treat foreign nationals and Brits abroad as “bargaining chips”.

Businesses and public services have already voiced fears at losing the immigrant workforce post-Brexit, but many now may begin lobbying the Government on offering reassurances to those closer to home.
