FULHAM 2 Martin (pen,45), Malone (55) BARNSLEY 0

-

FULHAM ended Barnsley’s recent good run as they ran out comfortable winners at Craven Cottage, with goals from Chris Martin (penalty) and Scott Malone.

The hosts started off at a furious pace, and Tom Cairney fired an early effort straight at Adam Davies.

The returning Martin was found in space by Malone a minute later, but placed his low drive straight at the onrushing Davies.

Sone Aluko and Lucas Piazon both fired efforts over the bar, before Barnsley nearly stunned the home crowd when Adam Hammill’s shot hit the crossbar.

However, Fulham broke the deadlock just before the break, when Martin converted a penalty after Kevin McDonald was fouled by Angus MacDonald.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes after the restart. Aluko laid the ball off to Martin, who delivered a cross into the box for Malone to volley past Davies.

Aluko had a shot saved, before Martin was again foiled by Davies, while Cairney’s excellent run and shot matched by an equally excellent save by Davies.
