That’ll be two goats and a sheep please

-

IN many parts of the world, paying the kids’ school tuition fees is the number one worry for parents.

So a scheme introduced in Zimbabwe will have families elsewhere taking notice.

The country’s education minister, Lazarus Dokora, says schools must show flexibility when it comes to demanding tuition fees.

Rather than just accepting the traditional payment method of money, Dokora believes struggling parents should be able to pay using livestock such as goats or sheep.

Not only that, parents can offer their skills to the school, such as a builder or plumber, as a form of payment.

Some schools have already begun accepting livestock for tuition fees.

We’d like to see this catch on over here – and not just in schools.

“I’ll give you three sheep and a hen for that car, sir…”
