40 years of newsprint
A COUPLE who have run a newspaper stand for almost four decades are set to retire today.
Moira Barnes, 67, and her husband David, 68, will set up their stall on Edinburgh’s Raeburn Place for the last time today, after a staggering 39 years.
The stand has been a permanent fixture of the Stockbridge area every Sunday morning for more than 100 years, with Moira and David only the fourth set of owners in a century.
A host of celebrities have been among the thousands of customers to visit the stall during their tenure, including Sir Sean Connery, former footballer Charlie Miller and former Rangers FC owner Sir David Murray.
David said: “We’ve enjoyed it but now we’re going to concentrate on family things.”
An emotional Moira said she has “loved every minute” of the job.
