Sisters must keep doing it for themselves...

-

ANNIE LENNOX has always struck me as a strong woman who has had a great career and campaigned on many important issues affecting the lives of women.

Last week the former Eurythmics singer claimed, however, that she would be terrified to try to make a career in today’s “social-media obsessed world”. Who can blame her?

“Today, everyone’s a critic. It’s like the Roman Empire but on steroids and I think it’s very challenging for young people,” she said.

Annie, 62, who has two daughters in their 20s, Lola and Tali, was speaking at an international summit on feminism where she described herself as a “proud” feminist.

She added: “I love the energy of young people and I think the future for feminism lies in the baton being passed down. We must encourage our daughters, sisters and sons to understand fully what feminism means.”

Annie – you are so right.

Feminism isn’t about the clothes you wear, the piercings you have or the outrageous things you say.

It’s about believing in girls. And it’s about giving them the education and the upbringing they need to take their place in the world and make their own choices about how they want to live their lives.
