Booze warning to Highland Games revellers
REVELLERS have been warned not to drink to excess during traditional Scots sports events.
Police have vowed to tackle booze-fuelled anti-social behaviour at Highland Games.
It is understood extra officers were arranged to attend the Oldmeldrum Sports event in Aberdeenshire yesterday. Inspector Lee Jardine, of the area’s divisional alcohol violence reduction unit, said it was a “small minority” who “go out of their way to cause trouble”.
He warned: “Know that you will be dealt with robustly, including bans on future shows and even appearing in court. Consider your alcohol intake and do not place yourself or others in a vulnerable position.”
However, The Scottish Highland Games Association, Braemar Gathering and Inveraray Highland Games organisers all said they have never witnessed trouble.
