Home and business own­ers af­fected by Storm Ophe­lia are be­ing urged not to put them­selves at risk and to con­tact their in­surer as soon as pos­si­ble.

Three peo­ple were killed and hun­dreds of thou­sands of peo­ple – mostly in Ire­land – were left with­out power after the remnants of Storm Ophe­lia bat­tered the British Isles ear­lier this month.

Alas­tair Ross, head of pub­lic pol­icy for Scot­land, Wales and North­ern Ire­land at the As­so­ci­a­tion of British In­sur­ers, said firms will help cus­tomers who have suf­fered storm dam­age re­cover as quickly as pos­si­ble.

He said: “Home, business and mo­tor poli­cies will cover storm dam­age.”
