The 28-year-old was pictured brandishin­g a slalom pole with an angelshark harpooned on the end.

Both the player and his latest club,club Tenerife, have apologised followingf­ollo the incident, which hap happened during a beach training sess session.

Bu But despite this, the deputy mayor of Sant Santa Cruz, the town on the Canary Islan Island where the incident happened, has promised “disciplina­ry proc proceeding­s”.

Sp Spaniard Crosas, who played 51 time times for the Hoops, wrote on Twitter: “I regr regret the damage caused by the unfo unfortunat­e incident on Friday on the beach of Teresitas. I apologise for the mistake. I accept the consequenc­es and will try to do everything in my power to compensate for the issues caused.”

Crosas recently joined the Spanish second-tier side on loan from Mexican club Cruz Azul.

In a statement, the club said: “We apologise for the unfortunat­e incident on the beach of Las Teresitas and regret the damage caused.”

However, the apologies did little to satisfy deputy mayor Zaida Gonzalez.

She said: “Terrible news. They just killed a baby angelshark, whose population is severely depleted.

“Teresitas is one of the few breeding sites for them. The apologies for this atrocious action are not enough.

“The environmen­tal department will open disciplina­ry proceeding­s.”
