Hundreds of peak rail seats lost
More than 700 peak-time seats have been lost on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow rail line due to delays in rolling out a new fleet of trains, according to the Liberal Democrats.
The combination of the postponements and leases expiring on existing trains have led to the lack of seats, the party’s transport spokesman Mike Rumbles said.
He uncovered the figures at Holyrood through parliamentary questions to Transport Minister Humza Yousaf.
They revealed that, across weekday peak periods, 6758 seats are now being provided on EdinburghGlasgow via Falkirk services rather than 7476 which were scheduled to operate up until the end of February.
