Peterhead had the first chance in seven minutes when a curling freekick from Willie Gibson hit the bar.

Peterhead were unlucky in 28 minutes when a shot from Chris Johnstone slipped inches wide.

The visitors took the lead in 37 minutes when a cross from Jamie Stevenson was headed home by Jordan Brown.

Montrose had the wind in the second half and went close when Cammy Ballantyne shot just over.

The home side levelled on the hour when Terry Masson took advantage of hesitancy in the Peterhead defence.

Peterhead went back in front three minutes later when Smith broke on a long ball and shot home.

It was 2-2 in 71 minutes when Chris Templeman scored from a Lewis Milne free-kick.

The winner came in 81 minutes when Gary Fraser crossed and Milne headed home.

Fleming made a stoppage-time save from a Mason Robertson header to make sure Montrose took all three points.

Cowdenbeat­h threatened in 12 minutes when Blair Malcolm’s 18-yarder was just too high, then Bryan Gilfillan burst through and his 20-yard shot was saved by the diving Brett Long.

On the half-hour, David Cox sent a raking 20 yarder inches wide.

On 39 minutes, Cowden went ahead when Buchanan held off two challenges and fired in a low 12-yarder.

Soon after, Fraser Mullen’s corner was headed home by Jordyn Sheerin to put the hosts two ahead for the first time this season.

On 61 minutes the visitors pulled one back when Sutherland sent a curling 22-yarder over Mcgurn.

City had pressure, but Cowden got the third when Cox turned home a Sheerin pass from close in with six minutes left.
