Trump at Rushmore: We will not be silenced
Donald Trump claimed protesters against racial injustice and police brutality were attempting to wipe out US history, in a speech to mark America’s Independence Day.
The President, pictured right, addressing more than 7,000 supporters at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, criticised protesters who targeted statues of Confederate leaders in the wake of the death of George Floyd in police custody. Trump said: “Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children. Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface memorials and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive, but no, the people are strong and proud and will not allow our country and all of its values, history and culture to be taken from them.”
