KENNY ON...

- RONNIE MORAN

IT was only a couple of weeks ago I paid tribute to Tommy Gemmell, and now we have lost another wonderful man in Ronnie Moran

He served Liverpool with distinction and integrity for the best part of 50 years.

He was there when I signed as a player and then part of the backroom staff when I took over as manager. We’d have discussions about team selection and there were times he’d disagree with me.

But, when it came to naming the team and then preparing for the game, you’d never know he wasn’t in agreement with me a few hours earlier.

He gave me 200% backing. I welcomed his opinion and he respected that I was the manager. The relationship worked very well.

He was a humble man and just loved Liverpool and his role at the club. He was part of the famous “Boot Room”, started by Bill Shankly.

Ronnie would enjoy the company in there with the likes of Joe Fagan and Bob Paisley. That was their domain. It was a great hub for information and they knew everything that was going on, not just at Anfield but at most other clubs, too.

Yet, for all their success, they never got carried away. Indeed, they’d still go in on a Sunday and wash the first-team kit from the previous day.

A lovely man and I’ll miss him very much.
