PENSIONERS now account for one in 12 of Britain’s private rental sector tenants.

Retired people represent 8% of tenants, compared with around one in 20 (5.2%) 10 years ago, lettings network Countrywide discovered.

It said around £1 in every £14 paid by tenants now came from a pensioner’s wallet.
