Couple’s Scots hunt for the simple life

The Sunday Post (Newcastle) - - HEALTH -

A RUNDOWN hotel in rural Scotland, transformed by a newlywed couple who gave up everything to buy it, will feature on TV this week.

Alice and Jade Calliva took the huge risk after growing tired with their lives in the city.

They walked away from their well- paid jobs in finance and PR in London, sold their home and moved 550 miles from their friends and family in order to buy a Perthshire inn that had been empty for two years.

“Life in the city had become tiresome,” explained Alice. “I needed a simpler way of life.”

The couple sold their London flat and bought The Inn At Loch Tummel, near Pitlochry.

They ploughed their life savings into the renovations, which they aimed to complete in just three months.

The six- bedroom hotel and restaurant opened last June and the couple have no regrets over the huge decision to leave everything behind and up sticks to Scotland.

The couple’s story is told in Channel 5 series, Starting Up, Starting Over on Wednesday at 7pm. Since the documentary was filmed, further renovations have been carried out and the inn now has a four-star tourism board rating.
