Dan’s the man that all mums want to chat up

The Sunday Post (Newcastle) - - NEWS -

Great British Bake Off hopeful Dan BeasleyHarling says the show has turned him into a hot dish of the day with mums at his kids’ school. Londoner Dan is one of the favourites to win the series after being one of two in contention for last week’s Star Baker. And the full-time dad-of-two has shot to fame as a result. “I do get recognised quite a lot in the supermarket checkout, and people are always really positive and complimentary,” Dan, 36, told The Sunday Post. “It’s also come with the side benefit that the alpha mums at the school gate now come and say hello!” Dan has been at home looking after his kids for the past six years and admits Bake Off was his chance to do something for himself. His calm manner and creativity during Bread Week saw him earn his second handshake from judge Paul Hollywood. And while he joked about it on the show, he admits it’s the plaudit everyone seeks. “All the bakers want to feel validated that they nailed their bake. Anyone who says they don’t care is lying.” But he says the judging can be terrifying. “Paul is definitely the scariest judge, although Prue can crush your soul with a negative comment – like that awful feeling you get when your mother tells you she’s disappointed in you.
