Chvrches star: I can’t stand the limelight
Pop singer Lauren Mayberry has revealed she can’t stand being a star. The Chvrches singer has an adoring fanbase and wows crowds around the world – but says she has never wanted the limelight. Stirlingshire-born Lauren, 31, insists she’d prefer to be in the background writing the hits rather than belting them out. She said: “When I was a kid, I don’t think I really wanted to be a singer or a performer or anything like that. “I don’t even really know if I like being a performer as a grown-up. I feel like I like being a writer.” Lauren, above, also let slip that she grew up fixated with Whitney Houston and her movie The Bodyguard, which spawned the hits I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing. She said: “My mum was into Sade and Whitney and would play them for us as we were in the house. “I remember just becoming absolutely obsessed with her and I would listen to The Bodyguard soundtrack all the time. I watched the film constantly as well.” The Brit award-winning trio burst on to the scene in 2013 with their debut album The Bones Of What You Believe and are on tour in the US.
