We did nothing wrong ...but are investigating
Police Scotland – supported by police conduct watchdogs – insist their officers acted “appropriately” when allowing Scott Calder to wander off alone, after being warned he was at risk and vulnerable.
His family were told the officers tried in vain to establish where he lived or where he was going but dropped him off at a bus stop anyway. It is not thought he had his mobile phone or wallet with him when left alone.
He was found dead on a beach one and a half miles away from the bus stop where officers said they left him. It is not known how he got there.
His parents have accused the police of failing to address their concerns or answer their questions about the last hours of Scott’s life.
Here is the national force’s official responses to Sunday Post reporters.
