Late horror show

Freddie Burns thought he had won the game when he burst through for Bath with five minutes left, blowing kisses to the crowd (above) as he carried with one hand, unaware that Maxime Medard was closing in. The France international hit Burns’ arm to dislodge the ball, with the chance – and the match – going begging for Bath.

Burns was immediately aware of the magnitude of his mistake, crumpling to the turf alongside team-mate Jackson Willison (above). He then slumped against an advertising hoarding after being substituted before his team-mates tried to comfort him – although there was only one way to look if you wanted someone to blame for the loss.
