Ace your case
Never mind the sandals and sun hat – packing the beauty products is where you can really have some fun, says Sonia Haria
I find most things about packing for a holiday a bit stressful: are three kaftans enough? Will I want a jacket? Do I really need two pairs of heels and three flats and my trainers in case I fancy a run? (The answer is always no.) But if there’s one thing I love about packing my suitcase, it’s gathering all the beauty bits to take with me.
A holiday, however long or short, is the perfect opportunity to pack a few luxurious products. There’s something about the warm, balmy evenings after a day by the pool or in the sea, before you head out for a cocktail or two, that just calls for some good products in your shower. A buffing scrub is essential. I have packed a couple of sachets of Legology Exfo-Lite salt scrubs in my case for every single holiday in the past few years. They are not only travel-friendly and light, but pack a real punch – you get a kick of citrus scent and the rich, luxe formula leaves the skin super-soft and shiny.
Then there’s a body oil, to make your skin really glow. Skin Deep Dry Leg Oil by This Works has stood the test of time – its delicious mix of nine essential oils leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated without greasiness, and it has a lingering, summery scent, thanks to its bergamot. It’s now available in a 80ml travel-size bottle with a useful spritz cap, which would be plenty even for a long holiday.
As for SPF, pack a minimum factor 30 and reapply often. I love Invisible Fresh Mist by La Roche-Posay – its Anthelios range is the gold standard for affordable facial sunscreens and this new SPF50 spray is brilliant for your beach bag. Just a note: always apply a sun cream first thing in the morning and use this mist for top-ups every hour or so.
For make-up, you’ll always have your favourites, but let me share one of mine: the new Palette Essentiel by Chanel. There’s a cream concealer, highlighter and blusher in the palette, and there are shades available to suit most skin tones. The concealer has very light coverage, but just enough to even out the skin where you need it. The highlighter cream is great on bare skin and the blusher provides a gentle pop of rosy, sunny colour on the cheeks. It’s not out for another two weeks, but grab it as soon as it launches on 4 August. Happy holidays…
