On Harris: Ceol na Mara (01859 502 464; ce­ol­na­mara.com): b&b from £90 per room. Si­t­u­ated only a few min­utes from Tar­bert and with views over Loch Kin­de­big, this guest house of­fers su­perb break­fasts in­clud­ing smoked salmon and pros­ecco.

On Lewis: Loch Crois­tean Cafe, Loch Crois­tean, Uig (01851 672 772); snacks, cakes and home­cooked dishes. This is re­mote but worth it – open noon-8pm; four-course din­ners Fri and Sat. three mills on Lewis, at Stornoway, Shaw­bost and Car­loway, and out­lets through­out the is­lands (see harris tweed.org). Look out for the Orb and Mal­tese Cross mo­tif.
