The Sunday Telegraph - Travel - - Cover Story - Tintern Abbey & Devil’s Pulpit, Monmouthshire (3 Miles)

Tintern’s 12thcentury Cistercian abbey fell into ruin after the Dissolution of the Monasteries and has been mythologised by poets and painters (most famously Wordsworth and Turner) ever since. On a crisp winter’s morning with frost on the ground and mist over the River Wye, it’s a revelation. Follow signs to Offa’s Dyke Path and the Devil’s Pulpit, a limestone outcrop that provides panoramic views over the river from the opposite side of the valley.
