Ride the rails
Canada’s West was opened up by train, and routes through the Rockies are still busy, thanks to glamorous trains such as the Rocky Mountaineer, with its glass dome coaches. VIA Rail, the national operator, also offers scenic trips. Running 835 miles from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Montreal, the Ocean service takes a day and a night. For dazzling fall foliage, take a trip on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train from Sault Ste Marie, on Lake Ontario.
