From dusk to late evening, the streets of downtown Kyoto are thronged with people, many dressed in colourful yukata (light cotton kimonos), as they admire the exquisitely-crafted floats on display in the traffic-free streets. There was much merriment as we strolled along with the flow, nibbling on grilled chicken and battered octopus in the balmy evening air, and enjoying the floats and the music.
