Ten miles south of Otranto, Santa Cesarea Terme has been a tourist destination since the 18th century. The clue is in the name – the thermal waters that rush up through its cracked soil.
These find focus at the main baths – which, open from March to December, allow visitors to soothe their bodies and souls in a variety of pools (€25; termesantacesarea.it).
There is a similar emphasis on relaxation at the four-star Grand Hotel Mediterraneo (0039 083 694 4008; grandhotelmed. it), which offers double rooms in October from €74, with breakfast.
