Town bans celebrities from festive switch-on

A town has banned D-list celebrities from turning on its Christmas lights to make it more upmarket.

Councillors in Banbury have banned celebrity guests so the light switch-on will appeal to more people.

Colin Clarke, chairman of the general services committee, said: “For many years we’ve enjoyed having celebrities switch on our Christmas lights, but things have to change.

“We think the new set-up will appeal to everyone and not just those who like a particular TV programme.” Previous stars have included actor Chris Gascoyne Sam Bailey. and
