Bur­glar thwarted by his own GPS tracker

A bungling bur­glar has be­come the first in the coun­try to be jailed af­ter he was traced to a se­ries of break-ins by a GPS tracker fit­ted to his leg fol­low­ing his re­lease from prison.

Stuart Camp­bell, a 42-year-old “pro­fes­sional bur­glar” from Ha­vant, Hamp­shire, pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court to five bur­glar­ies in Water­looville, com­mit­ted hours af­ter he had the tracker fit­ted. He asked for a fur­ther 12 bur­glar­ies to be taken into con­sid­er­a­tion and was sen­tenced to eight years in jail.
