Cyclists worse than Luftwaffe, priest tells flock

The Sunday Telegraph - - News - By Adam Bennett

A PRIEST has urged his congregation to offer prayers to stop a cycle path that would be “more damaging than the Luftwaffe”.

Father Michael Dunne is praying to stop plans for a two-lane cycle path because bikers would disrupt church events. The priest of The Church of Our Lady of Grace & St Edward in Chiswick, west London, used his October newsletter to rouse the community into action.

He said: “While clearly TfL (Transport for London) do not intend us any ill, it’s none the less depressing to reflect that their state-sponsored, taxpayerfunded plans would do our community more harm by removing our capacity for a bridal procession, funeral procession and every other public expression of our Christian identity than the Luftwaffe managed with its wartime bombs.”

A TfL spokesman said: “We are currently consulting on the plans for the Cycle Superhighway 9 which would run between Kensington Olympia and Brentford town centre.”
