Funds to tackle bullying of LGBT schoolchildren
The Government has pledged £2.6million of funding to improve the lives of LGBT people. The money will see £1million going to tackle bullying of LGBT children in schools and to improve the experience of LGBT people accessing health and social care.
The funds are part of the £4.5million package promised in the Government’s LGBT Action Plan announced in July. In schools, money will be used to train teachers to spot bullying early on and to provide resources for lessons on LGBT issues.
The funding follows a survey that found 16 per cent of respondents felt they had suffered a negative experience due to their orientation.
