News that a report by the Office for National Statistics had found
“no evidence” of a major problem with overseas students who study in the UK overstaying their visas set tongues wagging on Twitter. “Can [prime minister Theresa] May please now see sense and agree to remove international students from immigration targets & ensure visas are easy to get post-Brexit?” asked Johnny Rich (@JohnnySRich). Marc Coderre (@marccoderre) tweeted: “More 97% of international students in the UK leave after graduation. This is a shame, a huge pool of talent from the best unis in world – gone!”, while Dominic Shellard (@DMUVC) said that “policymaking on international students going forward must now be based on the new immigration data. If only we’d known before 23/6/16” – the date of the Brexit vote.
