Angry alumni to return degrees

THE (Times Higher Education) - - NEWS -

Dozens of Liberty University alumni plan to return their degree certificates in protest after the university’s leader, Jerry Falwell Jr, defended Donald Trump’s response to the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. After the US president said that there had been “very fine people” on both sides in Charlottesville, Mr Falwell, whose father founded Liberty, tweeted, calling the comments a “bold, truthful” statement and saying that he was

“so proud” of Mr Trump. The New York Times reported that alumni of the Virginia institution had set up a Facebook group stating: “Our public demonstration of revoking all ties, all support present and future, and urging the Board of Trustees to remove Falwell from the administration of L.U. will send a message to the school that could jeopardize future enrollment, finances and funding.”
