Free speech v free speech

THE (Times Higher Education) - - NEWS -

Jordan Peterson, the University of Toronto professor of psychology and free speech firebrand, has been accused of his own “attempt to chill free speech”. Kate Manne, assistant professor of philosophy at Cornell University, and Vox received a libel notice from Professor Peterson’s lawyer in June after an interview discussing his work. The notice demanded an apology and the removal of “defamatory” content such as “[Professor

Peterson says] some really eyebrow-raising, authoritarian-sounding, and even cruel things,” Inside Higher Ed reported. “Peterson’s threat to sue me for defamation for expressing my opinions about his book was, I believe, a classic attempt to chill speech,” said

Dr Manne.
