Southern lights dazzle

On 27 and 28 May, an incredible light show brightened up the skies of southern Australia and New Zealand. The aurora australis, or southern lights, is seen when the Sun releases electrical­ly charged particles that react with particles in our magnetic field and atmosphere. This creates bright streams of colour that dance across the sky.
