PLACE OF THE WEEK
Bass Rock, Firth of Forth
Bass Rock is an island of volcanic rock that lies off the east coast of Scotland, in the Firth of Forth. David Attenborough has described it as “one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world”.
Every year, Bass Rock becomes home to more than 150,000 gannets. These are large white birds with black wingtips that circle high above the water before plunging into the sea at top speeds to snatch unsuspecting fish.
