Three other totally ferocious ancient civilisations

-

Mongols

Led by Genghis Khan, the Mongols were a group of tribes that conquered all the land from the coast of China in the east, to the Caspian Sea in the west. The Mongols may have killed as many as 40 million people, but they also created a postal service.

Spartans

The Spartans were the most feared and respected warriors in ancient Greece. From the age of seven, a Spartan boy would learn how to fight. To encourage resourcefulness, trainees had to steal their food. If they were caught, however, they were beaten.

Aztecs

The Aztecs lived in what is now Mexico, from the 13th century until they were overthrown by the Spanish in the 16th. The Aztecs were also enthusiastic about human sacrifice. They killed thousands of their own people in grim and gruesome ways – and even ate some.
