PLACE OF THE WEEK
Irwell Sculpture Trail, Lancashire
On a 33-mile trail from the Lancashire town of Bacup to Salford Quays, in Greater Manchester, walkers are treated to more than 70 pieces of artwork from international and local artists. The Irwell Sculpture Trail is the UK’s largest sculpture route and can be enjoyed on foot or by bike. One of the most famous pieces on show is called Halo. This is an 18-metre-wide steel structure with a hole in the centre of a large disc and glows blue at night, using low-energy bulbs.
