May announced that the Government will publish draft legislation next week to impose a price cap on the domestic energy market. The PM proposed a cap earlier this year, before appearing to backtrack on the plan after losing her parliamentary majority in the election.

Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, has hired the pollster Lynton Crosby to help her craft her next election campaign, reports The Sunday Times, fuelling speculation that she is preparing a leadership bid. Rudd will need to convince Tory MPS that she can hold on to her seat in the next election if she is to emerge as a serious candidate. Her majority fell from 4,796 to just 346 at the last election.
