The Week - - News -

British and EU negotiators are due to meet next month to agree the terms of the transition/“implementation” period. The EU confirmed this week that it wants that period to end no later than the last day of 2020, which would coincide with the end of the EU’S seven-year budget. It expects the UK to remain bound by all EU rules, including new ones, during that time, although it will offer Britain a non-voting place at meetings that deal with certain issues, and will set up special arrangements for a UK role in setting annual EU fishing quotas.

The next key moment will be an EU summit in March, when EU leaders are due to sign off their “red lines” for the subsequent trade talks.
