Ramaphosa’s task in reforming the ANC will be complicated by his failure to win full control of the party’s leadership in last week’s elections. David Mabuza, a Zuma loyalist, has been elected deputy president. Ace Magashule, a confidant of the Gupta brothers, has been elected ANC secretary-general.
A South African court has upheld a recommendation, made in a report by South Africa’s anti-graft watchdog, that Zuma set up an inquiry into the corruption allegations against himself and his associates. He has been given 30 days in which to appoint the inquiry team.
