British embassy worker murdered:
An Uber driver with a criminal record has been arrested in connection with the murder of Rebecca Dykes, the British embassy worker whose body was found beside a motorway on the outskirts of Beirut last Saturday. The taxi driver has admitted to attempting to rape the 30-year-old and strangling her after she left a bar in Gemmayzeh, a neighbourhood known for its nightlife, last Friday. Her friends said she’d ordered an Uber to take her home. The driver, Tarek Hesso Harb, was traced from surveillance footage, of his car in Gemmayzeh and on the road where Dykes’s body was found, according to officials. He had previously been jailed several times for drugs offences. However, it remains unclear how he was able to pass Uber’s background checks.
