Christopher Roberts advises “equitable” and “proportionate retaliation” against tariffs imposed on the EU by the American “bully”. However, the US is at least picking on an economy of similar size and affluence. In contrast, EU tariffs on oranges, coffee, rice, wine, children’s shoes and more than 12,000 other items discriminate mainly against poor countries. equity, so the EU’S protectionist policies nullify potential grounds for complaint. Tim Martin, chairman, JD Wetherspoon
