Zimbabwe’s President Mnangagwa has called presidential and parliamentary elections for 30 July, and vowed that they will be free and fair. Mnangagwa (pictured), 75, who took power in November, hopes a convincing victory will bolster his legitimacy as he works to stabilise the economy and rebuild relations with the West. His main rival is Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, who has re-energised his party, gaining support in the ruling Zanu-pf’s rural strongholds.
