Lions have guaranteed themselves play-offs
Saturday’s vital win at Bury has pretty much guaranteed us a spot in the play-offs with Millwall six points ahead of seventh place Gillingham and just two games left – including an away match at our rivals’ ground.
We face Oldham Athletic at The Den on Saturday, April 30. They have nothing to play for so it would take an almighty collapse for us not to get across the line.
The 3-1 win at Gigg Lane was important in securing that play-off place and special thanks must go to Shrewsbury Town for their great 3-2 win at Priestfield.
Chris Taylor scored a brace for us and Steve Morison got another, his 18th of the season; it was important that Morro stepped up with top-scorer Lee Gregory out injured.
Morison was struggling to be fit for the match himself after getting a knock in the Fleetwood game.
Maybe now we should leave Gregory out of the Oldham match and get him fit for the play-offs rather than risk him against the Latics.
The same could apply to Morison as well.
If we can get through to the summer without any more knocks and absences we can be thankful for a relatively damage-free season, contributed to us using just 29 players this term compared to the 42 last season.
Neil Harris wanted a smaller squad to give our own youngsters an opportunity to be involved in the first team.
This has been the outstanding plus point – seeing youngsters like Ben Thompson and Mahlon Romeo come through and establish themselves as first choice players.
