Canary Wharf language school offers Spanish classes of all sizes on the estate
Want to learn a language? Then say hola and meet new friends at Vamos
Spanish language school Vamos has opened a Canary Wharf branch. The business has trained more than 6,000 students at its Holborn headquarters over the past seven years and now offers pre and post-work classes as well as lunchtime sessions at its Jubilee Place premises.
The courses cover all abilities, from total beginners through to proficient speakers.
Classes follow the Common European Framework Reference syllabus, covering 20 language levels from A1 to C2, based on ELE textbooks and supported by online learning and a blog.
Courses are either based on a week’s intensive study, five-week or 10-week blocks.
There is homework involved but also tapas and conversation nights, Spanish film viewings, paella cooking classes and wine tastings, not to mention occasional weekend trips to Spain.
“The sociable element is very
important because it’s the reason students come to class – to be part of a community,” said director Russell Collins.
“Quite a few of our students work in Canary Wharf already. It’s a great diversion from a busy job.”
The classes focus on the three basic rules of language learning – writing, listening and speaking – but with the emphasis on spoken communication.
“It’s a communicative approach, which is different from how languages are taught in school,” said Russell. “It’s an established method but what’s different about Vamos is the teachers, of which we have about 35.
“They are chosen for not just their experience, but their personality. They’re energetic and have something special. Basically, the students have to love their teachers.”
Courses start at £205. Those booking can enter code
