Tonks and Reid boost Scotland

-

LONDON IRISH duo Greig Tonks and Gordon Reid played for Scotland as they sealed a memorable win over Australia.

The pair were both in the starting 15 as the Scots secured a 24-19 win which lifts them up to fifth in the world rankings.

Tries from Finn Russell, Duncan Taylor and Hamish Watson were enough for new head coach Gregor Townsend to win his second game in charge.

The win is all the more impressive given Scotland were without star duo Stuart Hogg (injured) and Greig Laidlaw, who is away representing the British and Irish Lions.

Tonks (pictured) completed the full 80 minutes while Reid, who joined Irish this summer from Glasgow Warriors, played 54 minutes.

Scotland face Fiji on Saturday. YOUNGSTER Tom Parton started for England Under-20s as they lost the World Cup final to New Zealand.

Parton and fellow Irish player Theo Brophy Clews were a key part of the side all the way through to the showpiece event but the latter missed out against the Baby Blacks through injury.

New Zealand recorded a dominant victory in Georgia, winning by 64 points to 17 in what was England's fifth straight U20 World Cup final.
