Woodley knocked out

Oxford City Nomads 3 Woodley United 1

The Wokingham Paper - - FOOTBALL -

JAMES TENNANT’S early goal was not enough to prevent Woodley from exiting the FA Vase at the first qualifying round stage.

It was an open game from the off between the two Hellenic Premier sides with Oxford’s Jack Tutton seeing an early shot saved before Tennant missed at the other end.

But the Kestrels striker, dual registered with Hartley Wintney, did not wait long to break the deadlock, rounding goalkeeper Ben Turner and rolling into the empty net after just five minues.

Nathanael Robinson was denied a second goal by Turner and Nomads levelled on 23 minutes as Jordi Mulvaney poached from close range.

And the tie turned on its head on the half hour mark when Sami Khawaja outpaced the defence and tucked past Alex Reed.

Tennant was looking like Woodley’s chief threat, but Oxford added a third late on courtesy of substitute Henry Landers to secure victory.

Michael Herbert’s men, who have Picture: Rich Claypole won just once in all competitions this season, make the same trip to take on Oxford again this Saturday (3pm), this time for league points.

WOODLEY: Reed, Greenwood (Prestidge 64), Turner, Nichols, I. Kamara, Barley, Drew (Hinds 74), Ledger, Tennant, Horscroft, Robinson (White 82).

James Tennant put Woodley ahead early on but it was not enough and the Nomads knocked them out of the FA Vase
