Thieves tar­get phone store for a speaker

FOUR THIEVES raided the Car­phone Ware­house store in Wok­ing­ham's town cen­tre last week­end.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses fol­low­ing the raid which took place in the early hours of Fri­day, June 1. The gang got into the store by smash­ing glass in a door and stole a speaker am­pli­fier.

They were on site for just five min­utes and po­lice said that they left in the same di­rec­tion from which they ar­rived, where Mar­ket Place joins Broad Street.

Po­lice said all four offenders were wear­ing dark long sleeved tops, trousers, hoods and face cov­er­ings. They were car­ry­ing crow­bars, a sledge ham­mer and a large plas­tic bag.

It is the sec­ond time this year that the store has been raided. Back in Jan­uary, a po­lice he­li­copter was used to chase thieves in an­other overnight theft.

In­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer PC Jake Knight, based at Lod­don Val­ley po­lice sta­tion, said: “I would like to ap­peal to any­one who saw any suspicious ac­tiv­ity or ve­hi­cles in the area around the time of the bur­glary to speak to po­lice.”
