A CAMPAIGN to help borough residents give up smoking is gearing up for its busy month.

October is Stoptober for the Smokefreelife Berkshire campaign and organisers say that so far it has helped 300 people to change their habits.

As part of its support for smokers who want to quit, Smokefreelife Berkshire said it will be popping up around the area hosting events to encourage people to sign up to the challenge.

Launched in 2012, the Stoptober campaign is a Government initiative to reduce smoking across the country. Research shows that people who stop smoking during this time are five times more likely to remain smoke free.

Saleen Ahmed-Khan,

Public Health Improvement and Performance Lead, Smokefreelife Berkshire said: “Stoptober is the perfect time to motivate people to quit smoking. As smoking remains one of the leading causes of premature death in Berkshire and the UK, providing free support to smokers can help to reduce the risk of people developing smoking related illnesses.”

The charity said that borough residents who have been supported by the services said that its programme was amazing and inspirational.
