Li­brary to be­come a palace of fun

THE idea that li­braries are fusty places were ev­ery­one has to be sssshed into si­lence will be dis­pelled thanks to a spe­cial event com­ing up next month.

On Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 6, Wok­ing­ham Li­brary in Den­mark Street will be turned into a Fun Palace, of­fer­ing some­thing for artists and sci­en­tists alike.

The event starts with a Dad and Baby Rhymetime from 10am to 10.30am.

The Mighty Le­mons ukulele band will be per­form­ing fa­mil­iar songs at 11am to noon and there will also be the chance to try out the in­stru­ments when they have fin­ished their set.

Young­sters aged nine to 12 will be able to try a Code Club, with be­gin­ners ses­sions at 10.15am and ad­vanced ones from 11.10am.

Wok­ing­ham Li­brary’s teen cre­ative writ­ing club Ig­nit­ing Writ­ing will ex­plore me­taphor mad­ness from 10am to noon. At the same time, there is a poppy mak­ing craft ac­tiv­ity in prepa­ra­tion for the 100th an­niver­sary of the end of the First World War.

Bis­cuit dec­o­rat­ing ses­sions will run from 10am to noon, while Rachel Free­gard will run a Gem­stone Cabo­chon Neck­lace Work­shop from 10am to 1pm.

All events are free apart from the neck­lace work­shop, which charges £3.50 for ma­te­ri­als.
