Litter bin woes
A LACK of litter bins on Barkham Road between Wokingham railway station and the bus stop was highlighted by resident Rachel Bishop-Firth.
“The bins at the end of each of this stretch are small and hidden from view,” she said. “As a result, we have a litter problem.”
She sent photos of the problem to Cllr Norman Jorgensen, executive member for environment, leisure and libraries to show him the extent of the problem, asking him for a review.
He said: “It is clear that there is an issue and I have asked officers to have a look at this.”
And in a question from member Cllr Helen Power over problems caused by rats in her Evendons ward. She wanted to know if the council would seek to find a better solution to the issue.
She was disappointed with the response Cllr Jorgensen gave her.
Speaking to The Wokingham Paper, she said: “The answer that it is up to residents to deal with infestations is not good enough. Increasing rat problems are a borough-wide problem and individual households dealing with them is not working. Ignoring this problem is only going to make things worse. The Council can do better than this for its residents.
